COBBOLD'S WORTHAM: The Portrait of a Victorian Village
A new book published in October 2019:
In 1860 the Reverend Richard Cobbold of Wortham decided to create a beautiful book as a gift for his wife Mary Ann. “Features of Wortham” contains over 100 delightful watercolours of the houses, cottages, inns and other buildings of Wortham in 1860. This new book will contain reproductions of all the watercolours from this volume as well as transcriptions of many of Cobbold’s accompanying notes about Wortham and its inhabitants. We are very grateful to the Friends of the Suffolk Record Office, who are owners of the original hand-written book, for giving permission for us to publish it.

Victorian Flower Festival at Wortham Church a spectacular success!
Our amazing flower festival on Saturday and Sunday 8th & 9th June 2019 was a great success with hundreds of people flooding into the church on both days.
The weekend festival was to celebrate Richard Cobbold's paintings and writings about Wortham in the 19th Century and every superb flower display was inspired by one of Richard Cobbold's stories. The Rat Catcher who saved Cobbold's life; the Schoolteacher who could not read or write; the sick woman who was saved by a pint of gin; the old soldier who toppled into a well and lived to tell the tale.
The church was packed for the concert on the Sunday night, introduced by Martha Kearney of BBC Radio 4 and we were treated to a gorgeous programme by Matthew McCombie, the inspirational young concert pianist, and Olivia Stone whose beautiful voice filled the church. Sue Heaser read some of Cobbold's stories and everyone enjoyed a glass of wine after the performance.
